NIGHT ONE {CRIB TRAINING}

After writing my post the other day about {finally} getting Cooper to nap in his crib I came to the conclusion that I am the reason Cooper wasn't sleeping in his crib at night.  I was holding him and myself back from good sleep.

Last night I decided was the night, I was going to put Cooper to sleep in his bed and when he woke up I was not going to bring him into my bed, I was going to rock him and/or feed him and then place him back in his crib.

Sounds like a pretty good plan, right?

I honestly didn't think I was going to be able to do it because I'm so tired at night when I finally get to go to sleep. I thought I wouldn't be able to keep myself awake in that rocking chair.

The verdict:

I put Cooper to sleep at 8 o'clock after feeding and rocking him.  He did fall asleep in my arms and stayed asleep when I laid him down.  Cooper woke up four times which is much better than the usual 10+ times.  When he sleeps beside me he continuously wakes up to eat, which wakes me up and then he falls right back to sleep.  The constant waking up was just not cutting it for either of us.  Anyway, he slept! And I slept! We slept! It was glorious.  When he would wake up I would determine if it was because he was hungry or not.  If he was hungry I would feed him and lay him back down and if he wasn't I would sing and rock him back to sleep and lay him down.

Cooper woke up at 9:20 this morning smiling and talking!

Of course this could be a total fluke.  But I fully intend to do the same thing tonight.  I'll do a few posts on this to document our sleeping journey.

Goal:

Our ultimate goal is to be able to feed him, lay him in his bed either asleep or sleepy, and sleep through the night only waking to eat.

  1. Sleep training is so hard! We put Jack in his crib from the very beginning, but I do bring him back to bed with me from time to time when he wakes up around 3 or 4. He sleeps so good snuggled up next to me. :)

  3. Oh, how I remember being wide awake in the middle of the night trying to get my baby girl to sleep! Now she's four and is a sound sleeper but I was never more sleep deprived as I was during those few months. I wish you good luck and lots of rest!
